The Jefferson Arts Council Presents Our January 2020 Gallery Show

Fire & Ice

Reflections…Refractions…Relativities

CHARLES TOWN, WV–The Jefferson Arts Council (JAC) is excited to announce the first Gallery Show of the New Year, Fire & Ice – Reflections…Refractions….Relativities—featuring two local artists, Kirsten Lee and Frances Brolle, at the Fire Hall Gallery in Charles Town, WV located at 108 N. George Street.

Entranced with the play of light and color while breaking and removing ice from her horses’ water troughs during deep freezes, Ms. Lee started using selected ice slabs as a lens to the landscape around her, literally holding the ice between her camera and her subject. “The fractured dance between light, ice and subject, rather than digital manipulation, forms the worlds reflected and implied,” said Ms. Lee.  What started as intrigue with the play of light and ice during frigid farm chores became a fascinating, fun and heartfelt photographic exploration.

Ms. Brolle began studying metalsmithing and making jewelry in 1999 with a special interest in silver smithing. “I fused pieces of dichroic glass to create glass cabochons to set into sterling silver settings.  Glass and silver are fascinating to me,” Ms. Brolle said.  “Glass is sturdy and fragile at the same time and my work involves hot glass and hot metal,” she said.

Dickinson and Wait and the Bridge Gallery in Shepherdstown, WV, as well as other regional shops and locations, represent Ms. Brolle’s jewelry.  “There is nothing as thrilling as seeing someone on the street wearing a piece of my jewelry,” said Ms. Brolle.

Visit the Fire Hall Gallery throughout the month of January and see Fire & Ice represented through photography and glass.

The Fire Hall Gallery is open to the public Thursday and Friday from 12 – 5 p.m. and Saturday 10 – 3 p.m.  The public is invited to attend a reception on Saturday, January 18, 2020 from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. at the Gallery.

The Jefferson Arts Council is a non-profit organization of volunteers dedicated to supporting cultural and artistic events and programs throughout Jefferson County, WV.
